About

Devin Arne (b. 1985) is a composer, guitarist, and educator exploring the intersections of music, ecology, sound spatialization, and technology. His work bridges artistic domains, creating innovative auditory experiences that engage with contemporary environmental issues.

In his score for choreographer Silvana Cardell’s site-specific dance theatre piece Terra: Bodies and Territories (2025), Arne weaves a tapestry of sound that blurs the lines between nature and culture, developing an entirely off-grid sonic environment for site-specific dance performance at Philadelphia’s Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. By blending the voices of plants, animals, and humans with the resonances uncovered through extensive field recording, his immersive score challenges our perception of the environment and our place within it, inviting audiences to reconsider their relationship with the more-than-human world.

This ecological approach extends throughout Arne’s recent portfolio, including “Unheard Voices” (2021), an immersive sound installation driven by environmental sensor data, and “Roadside Apparition/Refracted Oasis” (2020), a collaboration with painter Laura Spaulding Best, commissioned by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. His diverse body of work encompasses music for international ad campaigns, television programs, web-based media, and mobile applications. Credits range from bespoke compositions for brands like Google, Mercedes-Benz, and Samsung to reality TV programs on E! and MTV, and documentaries such as Catalyst on Arizona PBS.

As the Assistant Professor of Studio Composition at West Chester University, Arne teaches Film & Media Scoring, Studio Production, and Computer Music. Originally from New York’s Hudson Valley, he studied jazz performance at The Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University and McGill University, and holds a Doctorate in Music and Interdisciplinary Digital Media from Arizona State University. Arne currently resides in the greater Philadelphia area with his wife, daughter, and two rescue pups.
